Neuron Pulse is an independent, low-bandwidth Quality of Experience (QoE) measuring and monitoring solution for airlines, cruise lines and more
Neuron customers can now deploy the Neuron Pulse QoE probe fleet-wide using any iOS device
The probe uses AI and machine learning to accurately predict QoE in real-time, across an entire fleet, while requiring minimal effort from the onboard crew
Neuron, the first AI-powered, QoE management platform for things that move, today launched the Neuron Pulse app for iOS, enabling “zero-touch” Quality of Experience (QoE) measuring and monitoring from any iOS device. With the app, Neuron’s customers can keep a pulse on their connectivity performance and QoE to get an independent, holistic view of the digital experience on each ship, plane or remote site in their operations.
In industries like aviation and maritime, measuring QoE accurately and at scale is challenging. Historically, companies have relied on manual testing and anecdotal feedback to gauge how their connectivity is working for people onboard. This approach is extremely limiting because every aircraft and vessel has its own unique set of performance indicators, based on factors such as time, geography, weather and location, which is a moving target – and it's not realistic to have people manually testing Wi-Fi performance on all routes, at all times.
Neuron’s industry experts and engineers built AI and machine learning models that have proven to accurately predict QoE across multiple connectivity providers, orbits and/or networks, in real-time, across an entire fleet. And now, customers can get up-and-running using any iOS device.
The Neuron Pulse iOS app is a probe that can be quickly deployed to crew devices through a corporate MDM. The app only needs to be opened one time, and then it does all the work behind the scenes. That includes using AI and machine learning to pull unique aircraft or vessel information, without the need for manual input. For example, in aviation, it intelligently captures details such as flight number, tail number, route, airport codes and more to accurately label and correlate all connectivity performance and QoE data. This data is then translated into analytics dashboards that customers can view in the Neuron portal and use to make better operational decisions.
“We built the Neuron Pulse 'Zero-Touch' iOS app with the end-user in mind, aiming to provide a seamless experience for our customers and their crew,” said Jonathan Kader, VP of product at Neuron. “By eliminating the need for manual input and using automatic data collection, the crew can focus on safety and taking care of their customers, while the app does the work of capturing the data our customers need to enhance their digital operations.”
Designed with privacy in mind, the Neuron Pulse iOS app acts as if it’s another user on the network – but at a much lower bandwidth. It only starts measuring and monitoring QoE when the crew device connects to the target network/SSID. Once the trip is complete, it stops tracking and sits idle until the target network is powered back on for the next trip. It does not collect any crew or passenger personal data, or have visibility into what they are doing on their devices.
The iOS app is one of two Neuron Pulse deployment methods that customers can use today, depending on their needs. In lieu of the app, customers can choose to deploy Neuron Pulse via their onboard server, working in collaboration with their connectivity provider(s). Each deployment method consumes approximately the same amount of bandwidth and generates similar datasets that can then be viewed by customers in their Neuron portal. The connectivity performance and QoE data captured by Neuron Pulse is created and owned by each customer.
